The case for each side
Claimed by the program: no recognized selector picked them
As Oklahoma A&M, went 9-0 and beat Saint Mary's in the Sugar Bowl, but finished only No. 5 in the 1945 AP poll. In 2013 the AFCA Blue Ribbon Commission retroactively awarded Oklahoma A&M/State its Coaches' Trophy for 1945, a project covering 1922-1949 seasons that predated the official Coaches Poll. This is not an AP, NCF, HAF, or CFRA selection.
Oklahoma State’s 1945 scheduleNo national title game was played after the 1945 season: before 1998 there was no mechanism to play one, which is why so many of these seasons were settled by vote instead.
